Episode 66: Jehovah Nissi

Join Lisa and Laura for our series Names of God. In biblical times, names were of great importance—they conveyed a person’s essence, history, nature, or character. As we explore the various names of God in the Old Testament, we gain insight into His character. With each name, we will learn a new attribute, deepening our understanding of and growing closer to God. In today’s episode, we explore our fourth name, Jehovah Nissi—the Lord, my banner. This episode is for those times when you need a victory or a win—when it feels like the battle is going on and on and all you want to do is give up. Jehovah Nissi is who we call when we’re in the trenches, the mud is past our ankles, and hope is out of focus. If you could use a banner of victory waving over your current circumstances, grab your Bible and join us in the conversation.

Invite Him in with this episode’s questions for reflection.
In what area of your life do you need to call on Jehovah Nissi? Is there an action or fight you are being called to step into now? Which do you struggle with more: going to prayer or taking action?
If you are not looking up to God as your source of power and deliverance, to what or whom are you looking? What banner are you beneath if not the banner of love?
